FPSC Level 1® Examination in Financial Planning: Preparation Checklist

Are you preparing to write the FPSC Level 1 Examination in Financial Planning?

Registering for the FPSC Level 1 Examination
  • Register for the exam by registering on the FPSC Portal.
  • Already have an account? Simply log in. Have you forgotten your password? You can reset it.
  • Remember - You don’t need to have your Core Curriculum transcripts to register for the exam. You can submit your transcripts directly to your FPSC Portal anytime up to one month prior to the exam.
PREPARE WITH FPSC’S STUDY RESOURCES
  • Watch the Examination Preparation Webinar for the December 2017 sitting. The Examination Preparation Webinar was facilitated by FPSC’s Examinations department to help exam candidates gain insight into the exams and their processes. 
  • If you haven’t already purchased the Practice Exam, be sure to prepare with this proven study tool. Of exam candidates who have used it in the past, 75% successfully passed the examination, compared to a pass rate of 65% for those who did not prepare with the Practice Exam.
  • Review the sample exam questions available. More than 50 sample questions are available on your FPSC Portal.
  • Familiarize yourself with the examination software by using our software tutorial.
UNDERSTAND HOW THE EXAM IS CONSTRUCTED
  • Review the FPSC Level 1 Examination Blueprint, which details the weightings and financial planning functions and components that will be covered on the exam.
  • Review the CFP Professional Competency Profile, which outlines the competencies that are being assessed in the exam (i.e. the application of your learned technical knowledge to a client situation).
Prepare for Exam Day: Examination Day Checklist
  • Bring your Admission Ticket. Approximately one week prior to the exam, you will receive an email directing you to download and print your Admission Ticket from your FPSC Portal. The address of your exam location will be printed on the Admission Ticket.
  • Bring photo identification. Along with your printed Admission Ticket, you must bring photo identification issued by a third party and containing both your photograph and signature. The name on your identification must match that on the exam application, educational transcripts and Admission Ticket. For examples of acceptable pieces of identification, please refer to pages 4-5 in the Guide to Examinations for CFP® Certification.
  • Bring a noiseless, non-programmable financial calculator. For a listing of approved calculator models, please refer to pages 15-16 in the Guide to Examinations for CFP Certification.
  • Arrive early. Please report to the examination centre by 8:15 a.m. and be registered and seated to hear instructions by 8:45 a.m. The writing of the exam will begin at 9:00 a.m.
