While many students may choose to pursue the QAFP designation on the path to CFP certification, unlike FPSC Level 1 certification, QAFP certification will be a distinct standalone designation and will not be a requirement on the new path to CFP certification.
There are two new education requirements for QAFP certification: Introduction to Professional Ethics and QAFP Professional Education Program (QAFP PEP), which are offered by FP Canada through the FP Canada Institute. QAFP PEP must be completed within one year of QAFP certification; however, candidates may choose to take QAFP PEP before sitting the QAFP examination (upon completion of IPE and CC).
QAFP certificants are exempt from CE requirements in all categories, including the category of Professional Responsibility, in the year they pass the QAFP exam and the following two calendar years, in recognition of completion of QAFP PEP.
In addition, a new requirement on the path to QAFP certification is one year of relevant work experience.
