ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) is a not-for-profit standards-setting and certification body that that manages, develops and operates certification (including the Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) professional certification), education and related programs for financial planning in Canada. The most widely recognized financial planning designation in Canada, and considered the standard for the profession globally, CFP® certification provides assurance to Canadians that the design of their financial future rests with an appropriately qualified professional who has demonstrated the knowledge, skills, experience and ethics to examine their clients’ entire financial picture, at the highest level of complexity required of the profession. Effective April 1, 2019, FPSC will transition to FP Canada—a national professional body with a mandate to lead the advancement of professional financial planning—with two distinct divisions: the FP Canada Standards Council™ and the FP Canada Institute™. FP Canada will achieve its mandate through an expansion of its scope to include elevating the practice of financial planning and helping planners enhance their professional skills. The FP Canada Standards Council will continue the critical standards-setting and certification activities at FPSC’s core, and through the FP Canada Institute, prospective and existing financial planners will access new programs focused on helping them further develop and hone their professional skills, ensuring that professional financial planners are equipped to meet the needs of all Canadians, well into the future.
At this exciting time growth and rebranding, FPSC wishes to recruit an accomplished, strategic leader to help the organization reach its next level of achievement. In this newly created role, the Chief Strategy Office & Head, Institute (CSO), will provide counsel and guidance to the President & CEO on the strategic direction of FP Canada. As Head of the FP Canada Institute, the CSO will drive and execute the strategy for program development for the Institute, to achieve its mandate of elevating the practice of financial planning in Canada. Further, the CSO will be responsible for establishing and executing the strategic communications for the organization, including external communications, brand, marketing and advertising strategies, and media relations. Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the CSO will have significant P&L responsibility, including the entire Institute budget, and will work closely with the President & CEO and Chief Operating Officer to establish the aggregate corporate budgets for FP Canada to effectively drive the organization’s overall strategy.
Possessing exceptional business acumen, teamwork skills and proven leadership abilities, the CSO will be a visionary leader who thrives in a professional, fast-paced and collaborative environment. The preferred candidate for this role will have knowledge of financial planning and the financial services industry and, preferably, an understanding of, or experience with, not-for-profit organizations. Candidates should have a University Degree, along a CFP, CPA and/or CFA designation, with a minimum of 15 years of combined experience in strategic leadership, marketing, communications, media relations, business development or education (with several years at an executive level). The CFP® designation and proficiency in French are strong assets. The ideal candidate brings highly developed business analysis skills, with the ability to effectively oversee and manage financial resources to optimize budgets. With a dossier of demonstrated achievements in managing strategic change, the preferred candidate will effectively lead a dynamic, capable and cohesive team of dedicated professionals to ensure that FP Canada achieves its purpose of fostering better financial health for Canadians.
